While patient owned DMEPOS is being repaired, you as the supplier may provide a loaner piece of equipment and be paid for the temporary replacement by Medicare, if billed correctly.

K0462 indicates a temporary replacement for patient owned equipment being repaired, any type.

In the narrative section of the claim, you must include all of the following:

  • For the equipment being repaired, include a narrative description, manufacturer and brand name/number
  • For the replacement equipment, include a narrative description, manufacturer and brand name/number
  • Description of what was repaired
  • Explanation of why the repair took more than one day to complete

Effective October 1st 2019, your claim will deny for missing information if you do not include this information.
